Dank D&D: A New Vision

Gary Schwartz September 26, 2019

It makes me happy to see that so many smoking clubs have taken to having Roll-a-Bong style game nights.  It seems that the average cannabis clubber enjoys playing games as they smoke.  Many of my games are designed for a home or dorm party atmosphere, but I believe I have the perfect game to interest many cannabis enthusiasts.  It’s something I have been playing since I was a teenager, and has evolved for me over the years.  The game is Dungeon and Dragons, and dozens of other games and systems, but yes D&D.  The game used to designate you as a nerd, geek, or some weirdo.  But times have changed!

Dungeons and Dragons has become hot, and part of pop culture.  I’ve been to gaming stores, they are not a fun place to play!  I guess if you have no other option, a gaming store is a place to play.  These games are solid, but lack intimacy and hospitality!  I prefer to play with my bong at hand, adding a little ganja to the magic of role playing.  My idea is to mix my ganja board and card games idea with a D&D adventure.  A pot-infused dungeon crawl with all the bells and whistles.  Miniatures, a 3-D terrain, real prizes instead of treasure, and most importantly, we smoke!

I came up with a fun, pot-themed title to peak potential players’ interests. “Fellowship of the Bong,” a cannabis infused D&D adventure for 4-6 players.  Representatives for the various tribes of Jah have assembled to join forces to retrieve sacred items stolen from each.  The Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Humans, and Half-Orcs have sent emissaries in peace to work together with the other races.  The villainous Grondarr the Pestilent, a giant Ogre, and his dastardly minions stole the relics from each race’s holy shrines.  It’s only when the Gnome representative arrives to share his Bardic knowledge.

The five items, when joined, formed the Mystic Chalice of Ganjarre, demi-god of fire/nature.  The tales tell that when the scared items are used together they create magic that can defeat armies while giving the user a dank and smooth hit!  The Fellowship must enter the lair of the giant Ogre and retrieve the scared items before they are used to conquer the known world and boggart all the weed!  The Gnome leads the noble group to their goal.

Included in the Fellowship are: Lothlorian, Elven Wizardess, seeking the Conduit of Jah, a golden tube.  Oleg Olsten, the roguish Halfling representative, seeking Finnegan’s Charmed Pipe.  Brother Soulforge, Dwarven Cleric of Earth, seeking Aurum’s Collection Plate.  Sir Landrew Vert, Paladin and representative of the Human tribes, seeks the Gold Sphere from the statue of Tyr.  The Half-Orc tribes sent Lessgarr seeking the seeds and flowers form the holy Akkapokoh Gold bush.

The lair is a maze of barracks, traps, loot, secret passages, and lots of magic weed.  Inside are minions ready to defend their master’s home.  Players will be expected to, with the help of their skills and abilities, find their way through the hellish gauntlet to retrieve all five golden relics.  The game will include dungeon tiles, miniatures, tricks and treats in each room, and lots of fast-paced hard-hitting action. This two hour RPG experience will satisfy the most experienced gamer and be easy enough for a first time player to get a taste of the game from “The Big Bang Theory” and “Stranger Things.”

“Fellowship of the Bong” will leave you breathless and buzzed!

The New York City Cannabis Medicine Show

Gary Schwartz September 13, 2019

I make no secret that I sell cannabis smoking games.  I do not hide the fact that it’s my business and that I sell games to make a profit.  I acknowledge that cannabis is consumed as part of my games and I don’t try to make it a “wink-wink” kind of game where smoking is implied as a rule.  In 2012, when I started my company, I believed that national cannabis legalization would soon be here.  Unfortunately, unlike many states, New York has not legalized adult use of cannabis.

I started my journey into the cannabis game field by joining local business and advocacy groups to meet the local community.  I gravitated to two groups, one a business group and one a student advocacy group supported by a NYC law firm doing social outreach. In 2013, both of these groups did good work by bringing a wide range of people together.  Magazine publishers networked with student activists, entrepreneurs talked with interested investors. These groups seemed to be guiding NY to legal status and getting ready for the green internet to be released in NY State.

These groups encouraged me to show up, give out some games and see what happens.  I did and, at first, things were great.  As long as I wanted to give out games for free, or spend money on one of their events, I was a good friend and someone they loved to work with.  I was invited to many events, building the reputation of my game, and it worked.  They needed a vendor, I was there.  They needed help organizing an event, I was there.  I built a reputation based on doing what I say.

Like the movie Groundhog Day, these groups just couldn’t get it right again.  They would put in less and less effort and expect people to pay more and more.  It didn’t matter that legalization didn’t happen and these business groups failed to spawn a single business.  The groups became about having events and collecting money from individuals who wanted information about the cannabis industry.  Each event covered the same ground over and over and naked greed was showing it’s ugly head.

The deals became one-sided and the several emails needed for a reply turned into weeks of effort.  I would see these cultural cannabis advocates headlining marches or speeches, but no mention of the fact that they had failed - pot is still illegal in NY!  It’s like sheep leading sheep.    What they do is get way too stoned and act like they are something.  The fact is that they suck at everything:  none of them have serious relationships or responsibilities, and they use their group as an excuse to get high all the time!

These thieves should have been out of business a long time ago, but they are needed to swindle people out of their money.  The cannabis advocacy community has been taken over by the CBD crooks.  With no real store front, these fly by night crooks use these cannabis events to sell their goods.  With no real oversight or need for compliance, these makers sell their oils, gummies, and other products directly to the public at these snake oil shows masquerading as advocacy or business groups.

My grandparents were from Manhattan and they always reminded me that NYC was designed to separate suckers from their money.  So, there are no marijuana business associations. Period!  NORML is the only legitimate advocacy group I know and the rest are con artists!  Buy weed from a person you know. If you don’t, spend time to develop a relationship with the person who supplies you with ganja.  It’s old school but it’s the only way.  And always know where your wallet is!!!

Forget the HYPE and learn from Rafa

Gary Schwartz September 10, 2019

This past weekend in Flushing Meadows, NY, Rafael Nadal won the biggest tournament in the world.  The US Open is the crown jewel of tennis and the winner’s trophy is accompanied by a check for 3.85 million dollars.  In a year of hype over Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, Rafa quietly won half of the 2019 Grand Slams.  At 33, this Spanish superstar has it all!  Everything this humble man does is done with an unbelievable charm and quiet dignity.

Nadal lets his tennis talk for itself, and 19 Grand Slam titles sounds pretty loud!  His girlfriend, and soon to be wife, is stunning and her beauty lights up the court every match she attends.  Rafa lives in a community that he purchased for his relatives.  Even with his incredible charity work, and his generosity to family, he still has tons of money.  His newly purchased yacht needed to be bigger than the old one, there wasn’t enough room for guests.  Nadal also loves watches, and has a $50K time piece on his wrist.

With all that fame, fortune, and luck, Rafa never brags - he looks uncomfortable when praised.  Nadal focuses on those things he can control.  His practice routine is legendary, and few athletes can maintain such a high intensity workout for that long.  On the court, Rafa plays every point hard.  Every shot, every serve, every change over, is done with myopic focus, and everything is intense.  Fans don’t expect Rafael to smile, but they love when he takes off his shirt to show a superhero-like body.  Yes, many find him gorgeous with a kind smile and a easy way about him.

When he accepted the winner’s trophy on Sunday, tears filled his eyes.  This humble tennis legend is a warrior and never have I have seen a man with more grit.  There he stood, accepting history, and he looked grateful for the roar of the fans.  They love him, and I agree, he is the stuff of legends.  One interview after another, Nadal never changed, he was happy for the attention and humble about his accomplishments.

Men’s tennis is a gold standard of sports.  2019 will be the end of the 3 living legends playing together. Age can’t be denied and Federer and Djokovic had serious injuries that showed during the Open.  Nadal, without any fanfare, might end 2019 in the #1 position.  Rafael Nadal is a force of nature and has the potential to win more Grand Slams than Roger Federer, maybe to become the GOAT?!  He is already history’s greatest clay court player - could Wimbledon be in play in 2020?

One thing is for sure, Rafael Nadal is the coolest athlete in the world.  Rich, handsome, adored by friends and family, an amazing tennis player, a generous humanitarian, and humble.  I could never be him, but I try to learn from him.  Practice like you play, HARD!  Life gives you a limited amount of chances, so hit the shit out of the ball every time.  Food is wonderful, but being totally in control of your body takes dedication to diet.  Only eat foods that make your body work well and feel great even if it’s the same thing before every match.  Smile! Why not, it makes others smile, too.  Most importantly, never look at the score, always play to win.  Like life, tennis is a game of heart, and you need a great deal of it to win a Grand Slam Tournament.
